Merry Christmas, everybody!

Well, today is Christmas and I'm blogging on time. Who knew I had it in me?

December's a wierd month for me. I hate most of it, because I hate Christmas Carols and all the shopping propaganda. Then "Christmas" comes around on the 23rd or so (my family celebrates early so everyone's schedules work out) and I remember that I actually do like this holiday.

Every year since I moved out I've watched Clerks II on Christmas (real Christmas, not early Christmas), and I intend to keep the tradition going. Visit some old friends for dinner. Don't know what else I'm going to do, but it should be fun.

And I hope whatever you do today is also fun. Merry Christmas, from YNTE.

Bear is Going Back to Driver's Ed

So I was on my way to work this afternoon, and to my right what do I see? A tree, but with an added bonus. A car. I don't know how they managed to drive over the left lane and into this tree, but I can only assume that a bear must have been driving.

Leonidus' Favorite Condiment.

Madness? THIS IS KETCHUP!

Taken with Umi's crappy camera phone at the South Hill Arby's.

I've arrived.

That's right, as of today, I'm important enough to have a name plate outside my cube.

Also, this is YNTE's 100th post, which makes it eligible for syndication. Hooray!

Achievement Unlocked.

Earlier today when I posted that I would be hitting 10k "soon", I was still 160 points away. I knew I could get 160 points in a few days. I had no idea it would only take hours.

10k is a HUGE deal for me, way bigger than it should be, but whatev. Point is, I set a goal, I buckled down, and I saw it to completion, which is rare for me. Sure the goal involved playing a lot of video games, but still.

Anyway, thanks to anyone who helped me get here. I did it.

Video Time Part 2: Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Chonchords are hilarious. Check out their comedy specials or their HBO TV series from which the following clip was pulled. At the very least, youtube "The Humans Are Dead". You'll be glad you did.

Video Time Again! YAY!

The following video is from Prison Break, Season 3, and for those of our readers who haven't seen season 3 yet(there's at least 1, which is a substantial percentage), it doesn't really spoil anything. I think. I edited it a while ago and just now got around to uploading it and didn't watch it again. But I kind of remember what was in it and I think it's fine.

Not spoiler free is the Head in a Box series we'll be uploading once somebody edits it down. So prolly never.

The obligatory (late) happy thanksgiving post

The day before thanksgiving I talked to Matt and he said to me "One of us should do a Thanksgiving post." It thought it was a good idea and agreed. Then i put it off until now. So consider this a combination late Thanksgiving and an early Christmas/Channukkah/Kwanzaa/Robotikah post.

My goal to get to 10,000 gamerscore points by the end of the year has been eating up a lot of my time. I'm now fairly close and can confidently say that short of system failure, I will achieve my goal. More on that in another post soon.

I did also have the goal of writing a novel for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). That goal failed, in large part to the other goal and the fact that novels are incredibly hard to write.

Beyond that, life's been pretty good. I went to see Mike Birbiglia, who is a very funny man. I helped my parents with some yard landscaping, played some Rock Band, read some comic books. I've been pretty busy but managed to stay happy, or at least calm and unstressed. So I guess that would be what I'm thankful for this year.

So to all, Happy Holidays from YNTE.

-Evan

"You do know I made Robotikah up to get out of doing work, right?"
"Yes, but that doesn't make it any less special."

Achievement Unlocked: That's a lot of 8s

So, I've been spending FAR too much time on my 360 recently, which has been distracting me from my goal of writing a nove. Now I'm way behind. Thanks a lot, game developers.

I'm doing pretty good at Guitar Hero 3. I still haven't beaten Lou on Hard, but I'm most of the way through Expert. The achievements are kinda hard to come by unless you're some sort of amazing prodigy with no life and too much free time. Or Matt.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is uber fun, and I'm already at 500 Gamerscore with more to come. I could fairly easily get 1000 on this game.

Carcassonne, a variable tile game for the XBLA is free, but only for today and tomorrow. I downloaded it, played one game, and got 55 points. Not too shabby.

Assassin's Creed is amazing. Not only is it incredibly fun, it's also graphically the best game I have ever seen. It does for the 360 what God of War did for the PS2, makes you think "Hrm, I didn't know the system could do that." I've killed my first of 9 marks, so plenty of game left.

Right now my gamerscore sits squarely at 8888, which I decided was a nice, even number to blog about. I'm also getting close to 10,000 which with the games I have shouldn't be hard to get. I just have to go back to Orange Box and get the '2 Points' achievement so I hit it on the head. Too bad I suck at basketball. My name on XBox Live is ShovelMage. Be friends with me!

Achievement Unlocked: Überness

Well, I'm not the only one lately that has gotten a great gamerscore. That's right, I got the best than anyone could possibly get: 1337. Take that boobs!

So yeah, I've been busy lately, but I've gotten my gaming time in edgewise. I have lent out Gears of War and teh Haloz to my brother, so right now I have the Orange Box. Quite a lot of achievements on that one, and making it possible to get that sweet 2 points achievement. I also got Guitar Hero 3, but sadly, not for the 360. But if I DID have it, I would totally be gloating about the "Inhuman Achievement", as I have beat Through the Fire and Flames on expert. Yes, it is possible. And if I can borrow GH3 from someone and get a bunch of achievements, I'll be happy. And gloaty. Woot.

I also got some gamer points, so I bought me some Castlevania SOTN, Every Extend Extra Extreme, and Geometry Wars. Look out achievements. Sadly, though, my trial Gold membership will be expiring soon, so I'll have to fork over $50 to get a full one. Yay.

I finally was smart and am using my switch, so I might be able to be on XBL more often. Find me, friend me, challenge me, kill me.... or something to that extent.

EDIT: Remind me not to save as a jpeg next time... fixed with png.

Achievement Unlocked: Boobs.

I haven't really done anything to warrant a new column, I played some Orange Box, got Guitar Hero 3, but still haven't beaten it. I was going to wait until beating it to write, but when I checked my Gamerscore, I knew I had to write now.

Not only had I passed 8000, I had hit a very important number spot on and had to immortalize it. I'm curently sitting right at 8008, which any 4th grader with a calculator could tell you spells "boob".
Guitar Hero 3 is pretty tight, nothing revolutionary. Looks like the achievements may be even harder to get than they were in 2. Time will tell.

Anyway, happy 'boob' day, everyone. My name on XBox Live is ShovelMage. Be friends with me!

This Week In Comics: Gambit + Rogue = AWESOME

These past two weeks have been a bit uneventful, aside from one book, and that book is X-Men.

Gambit has always been my favorite member of the X-Men, and while I was excited 4 issues ago when he came back, now that he and Rogue are having face time again (kind of, she's semi-catatonic), I'm hella stoked. Not to mention that the issue was pretty cool otherwise. The stage is now set for Messiah Complex, the X-Men crossover event that begins soon. (next week?). Also, the book got a new, better artist. This issue is gold.

Speaking of crossovers, Spidey's 'One More Day' was delayed an entire month. WTF.

Achievement Unlocked: SCORPIONS!

This past week I have been playing my 360 a ton. Here's how it breaks down.

I got sick of Halo3 for a while so I switched back to Gears of War for a while. Aside from playing through most of the game as Dom (the sidekick in co-op mode), I also have been playing a LOT of Annex on the new maps to try and get the 250 points that were added on for DLC. For a while, I had my guitar hero controller plugged in and was playing against it, though apparently that's cheating and doesn't count towards the achievements.

After a while, I got bored of playing Annex against nobody and switched back to Halo3. Finished my Heroic Co-Op run and found the rest of the Gold Skulls and Terminals. Played a little bit on live, but that part of the game just doesn't interest me as much.

In amongst all this switching back and forth between Gears and Halo, I played some Guitar Hero II, and got the achievement for unlocking all the characters, the last plausible achievement for me. Just when I was ready to put my plastic guitar away though, the demo for GH3 hit the interwebs. From what I can tell from the demo, they didn't really change anything from 2 other than the songs and beefier graphics, which is good, because why mess with a working formula? Anyway, I blasted 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' out on Expert, which means I'm as good at Guitar Hero as these guys are at guitar:
Other than that, I played some Fable and a few random arcade games.

I would like to also point out that while Yaris is free, if you play it for more than 5 minutes, you have overpaid. While I'm down with the concept of free advergames, this one just SUCKS.

My XBL name is ShovelMage. Be friends with me!

Reader Submission Time

I don't know if it counts as a reader submission if I still have to do the editing, but here you go, from The Royal Tenenbaums courtesy of my sister:

This Week In Comics: Now I'm Broke.

You know how last week I was complaining about how Marvel didn't release a single comic book I read? Well, this past week they made up for it in a big, bad, and expensive way. I think I ended up buying 8 different books. It was kind of an overload.

New Avengers was kind of interesting, though it did not, in fact, feature a single panel with any one of the New Avengers in it.

Punisher War Journal joined the list of comic books really didn't need to be World War Hulk crossovers. The end of last issue left me hopeful that Punisher would once again face Jigsaw and instead he's rescuing cats. On a side note, Jigsaw did appear in the Avengerless New Avengers.

The new issue of Spider-Man's "One More Day" arc came out. It suggests that Time Travel will retcon the past. Really? Is that the best idea you guys could come up with? Time Travel?

The big winner this week was New Avengers/Transformers, potentially the most unlikely crossover ever. Issue 4 brought the conclusion of the series, and while it was rediculous and kind of bad, it was a fun read. It was, during its short run, the Snakes on a Plane of comics (except i think there was a SoaP comic book).

But all in all, a lot to read, and that means I had to go the week without food. YAY!

Achievement Unlocked: Halormal?

I also have been plowing through Halo 3. I however, did not beat it on heroic, only normal, though I've started my SP legendary run. I'm also mostly done with a co-op run on heroic, not sure if that'll give me the achievement or not. I've also found most of the skulls, Including the 'I Would Have Been Your Daddy' skull everyone on the internet is bitching about being so hard.

Nowadays, many people are treating Halo like it's the second (or third in this case) coming of the Messiah. I'm not one of these fanboys. In fact Halo doesn't do anything that another FPS hasn't already done, and done better. But what Bungie did succeed at was making game that is a lot of fun. In the days when most shooters are slow paced tactical thinking shooters, it's nice to go back to the bull-in-the-china-shop days of Doom.

I'm at 470 Gamerscore on Halo, with a lot of the remaining achievements seeming quite accomplishable. Up next: The Orange Box?

Achievement Unlocked: Haloic

Haloic! A clever mix of Halo and Heroic... aha..ha. Yeah okay.

Anyways, I got teh Haloz 3. My neighbor had the first two and let me borrow them (read: he thrust them upon me and said "Play. Now.") So pretty much for the past two weeks I've been on a Halo Heroic binge in-between classes. And what a glorious run its been. I've cleared all the levels on heroic on all three games, and now I am moving on to Legendary on Halo 3.

I must admit, Bungie did a damn good job with this one. I didn't follow the first two real closely and try not to adhere to fanboyism, but as a shooter it is impressive. Equipments are fun, as are detachable turrets. And the extra features are a hella fun to mess around with. And now that I have a month free trial for Xbox Live Gold I might as well play the hell out of it. Already flowing up the ranks. And getting those achievements.

Halo Gamerscore: 560
Total Gamerscore: 1100 (Its ridiculous, its not even funny)

BTW, my gamertag is Jagarandi. Come find me.

This Week in Comics - Iron and the Maiden

This week, Marvel and DC both refused to release any of the comic books I regularly read. Luckily, one of my favorite indie comics came out to fill the void in my heart: Iron and the Maiden.

If you're not reading this comic yet, now is the time to get on board. Both the writing and the art are top notch, and it is entertaining to no end. Not only is it probably my favorite comic book out right now, but it is possibly the most entertaining thing to come out this year on any medium (though I haven't yet played Halo 3).

The only way this series could get better is if somebody says the phrase "You need to eat."

But seriously, I don't care if you regularly read comics or not, you'll probably enjoy this.

Killer eating little costco girl.

Achievement Unlocked: Dammit RAAM edition

So guess what game is freaking impossible to beat on Insane? Gears of War. Well, impossible to beat without dying many horrible, horrible deaths, that is. Playing on insane effectively makes you the weakest person ever. Everyone can survive a point blank grenade, except you.

And because of this, the final boss, RAAM, is one of the hardest bosses I've ever fought. Not because he has an impenetrable shield, not because there are also enemies firing at you from the sky, not because there are thousands of Kryll in the sky waiting to eat me, and not because my teammate Dom is an idiot that gets himself killed right away... it's because he's a fucking dead-on aim with a gatling gun. And will kill you in under a second. Yet, the only reason I beat this monstrosity is because my AI Teammate, Dom, had to be an idiot and keep getting himself killed. Except on the last time, he died in such a place that RAAM could not come any closer to me. Thus ensuring sweet victory, granted I wasn't out of cover for more than 1 second at a time.

And who the hell came up with exploding Wretches? This game is extremely fun, but I mean come on, why do you have to make something that kills me fast kill me after its dead? (Read: Act 3 sucks ass.)

In either case, this brings Matt up to 500 achievement points in Gears of War. Woot!

Screw Halo, go play some Gears. >_>

User Submission time!

We welcome user submissions, so here's one from... my mom.

This Week In Comics (was uneventful)

Not a whole lot new came out. There was a new World War Hulk, which is entertaining to read, but pretty predictable. Everyone knew Sentry was gonna come into play for issue 5, so there were no real surprises. Just what this series is good at: lots of random fighting and random sound effects. There was a "SCHLOOOORF" this issue, but that's nothing compared to "Krakka Bathroom!" from issue one.
If you want me to keep buying WWH, at least throw in a "That's what she said joke". Oh wait. You already did.

Editor's Note: Yes, I know, comics come out on Wednesday, and today is a Tuesday, which makes me almost a week behind. I know.

Achievement Unlocked - Gun, Oblivion, and teh haloz Edition

So I finally got around to writing the new xbox 360 related column I mentioned back in the day. I'm calling it Achievement Unlocked, because I already had the graphic made, and I'm too lazy to think of a better name.

Recently, I got Oblivion and Gun in the mail through Goozex. I quickly beat Gun 100% on easy which gave me every achievement but 3 (beating the game on medium, hard, and expert). I'll probably go back and get 'em eventually.

I was playing through Oblivion, trying to get the achievements for beating the main storyline before getting to the various guilds. About 3/4 of the way through, the game froze and all my save games became corrupted. So I cursed a bit and then made a new character and am flying through the thieves guild quests.

Played a bit of Guitar Hero II, but accomplished nothing. Now that Freya's beat on expert, I've hit another wall. Need to get the unlocking all the characters achievement, but other than that, all of the achievements are near impossible or co-op.

Some of my 360 time has been spent playing teh haloz. I also have been exclusively calling it 'teh haloz' and will continue to do so until 'teh new haloz' comes out.

I'm at 6740. 7000 soon?

Sounds delicious

I knew TV shows other than Lost talked about needing to eat.
Metalocalypse is friggin' funny, BTW.

My hellza exciting weekend

I basically sat around playing video games (oblivion, gun, teh haloz), watching tv (lost, bones, prison break) and reading old comic books, mainly x-men. I started reading the dark pheonix saga. It's a classic. I also plopped down 6 bucks for a copy of X-Men (vol2) Issue 1. Now I just need issues 2-199, and I'll be up to date!

The Last of the Lost

All good things must come to an end, and as such, so have my lost videos (at least until Season 4, orI go back to seasons 1-2). But hey, there's other shows, and I don't think the videos will be stopping.

Anyway, enjoy!

This Week In Comics: New Avengers 34

Welcome to a brand new segment where I tell you what comic books came out this week and if anything humorous happened. For example:

If you read New Avengers 34, that picture will make (more) sense. Also, Punisher War Journal ended it's sucky streak with a pretty tight issue. More suck to come? Iron and The Maiden is pretty awesome as well.

Also, the Iron Man trailer hit the interwebs, and it's hilarious in that "Hey, I've never even read a comic book, but lets make a movie about a comic book character anyways. And lets throw a Sabbath song in the background that has the same title as the movie, but is completely unrelated. Awesome idea." kind of way.

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

And now... a scene with no context!

So, it's been a while since I posted, but I think tonight's motherload should make it worthwhile.

Video takes a while, and I've been meaning to up these, but my internets have been clogged.

Shoot 'Em Up

Go see Shoot 'Em Up. As much of an action film as it is, I would classify it more as a comedy/awesome. Also, within the first five minutes, it makes YNTE proud. Remember kids and people trying to kill Smith, eat your vegetables.

You Need to NOT Eat?

This just in, guys. Eating is a sin! Eat at your own risk.

There's at least one more Lost video coming. Probably more.

Monday, September 10, 2007

And I thought all I needed was to eat!

Yay for more video! I need to watch Lost more often, apparently.

As I find more, I'll keep upping them. If I get enough, I'll edit them all down into one video.

I'll YouTube it soon.

Friday, September 7, 2007

He SO deserved it.

I reccomend you all pick up the most recent issue of Amazing Spider-Man. The Iron Man/Spider-Man fighe was a classic. Not much else out in comics this week though.

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Now with video?

That's right, video! I was catching up on 'Lost' when I came across this tasty snippet. Enjoy!

Ch-ch-ch-changes

So, if you check the site often, you may have noticed an alarming lack of updates over the past couple weeks. Matt, I'm sure, is very busy with his first year of college starting and his "computer problems". So he gets a bit of a pass. But what's my excuse?

Well, I did just move, but that's only part of it. I guess finding random images and putting words on them just doesn't hold the same appeal it used to. At the same time, this blog is AWESOME and I don't want to watch it die. So I found a solution: make it topical.

So from now on, there'll be a few things different, and really not all that different from the recent stuff. I'll write a few sentences or so about what's been going on in my life, along with a captioned picture that relates somehow. For example, if I've been watching Prison Break, I'll post a picture of T-Bag's gangly, handless, self saying YNTE. Nothing life changing, just a little bit more of an incentive for me to keep it up by making it a bit more personalized. And I promise it'll be little inane shit like "I played GTA" not emotional shit that nobody cares about like "I cut my wrists becuz im so loneliez". Ug. Nobody want's to read that and it's not funny. Unless my emotional anguish were anorexia and I really did need to eat. That'd be ironic. But I digress.

And hell, I may still throw in a couple random ones of a guy holding a banana that has nothing to do with anything.

I'm not really sure what Matt will do at this point, could be a little bit of anything.

On top of that all, there are a couple other things I want to point out/add/change. First of all, user submissions are not only allowed, they are encouraged! So caption images and send 'em in to weneedtoeat@gmail.com and we'll post them! Unless they suck.

Also I want to start up some sort of podcast and also a semi regular column about the Xbox 360 and how I have no life and use it way too much. More on those as they come to fruit, they are still just ideas.

So in short, some things may be changing, but should still be crazy-go-nuts-fun.

-Evan

The Grid

There, Steve-o. You happy?

Moving

Almost immediately after giving Matt a hard time about not updating, I went on a stretch of not updating. My excuse is simply that I moved (and to a certain degree am still moving) and should be back up and running now/soon.

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Like Pac-Man, but with hard drives instead of dots.

So Matt tells me that the lack of updates is due to massive computer failure and it's Microsoft's fault. Do we believe him? You decide.

More comic book-y goodness

This one I decided was best to just leave as is.

Hulk smash puny food!

You may need to click this one to fullsize it to get the full experience.

And I only changed one panel. The rest is REAL.

Off topic for a moment...

Thought I'd post something different today. Evan can explain it better. >_>

Enchanted Arms

I finally finished Enchanted Arms and in doing so, unlocked the last acheivement needed to get my full 1000. So you get a picture of Atsuma to celebrate.
